Bush’s Wildly Applauded GOP Debate Statements On Hillary Came From Only One Source

Jeb Bush made damning statements about Hillary Clinton’s ability to lead the country as president during the GOP debate on January 14. In particular, he questioned her ability to lead while being investigated by the FBI.

While appearing on “Fox & Friends,” Jeb was specifically asked about his statements regarding the email scandal surrounding Hillary Clinton at the GOP debate.

The final line earned Jeb some applause at the debate and the “Fox & Friends” hosts certainly seemed to enjoy it, as well.

Here’s the issue with getting news about Clinton or any other topic solely from Fox & Friends: the statements are unsourced, unreliable, and not completely true, although that shouldn’t come as any surprise. Hillary Clinton is not currently under investigation by the FBI.

According to Politico, the statements Jeb made are “half true.”

“In July 2015, the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community sent what is called a security referral to members of the executive branch. A security referral is essentially a notification that classified information might exist in a location outside of the government’s possession. In this case, the location was Clinton’s private email server.

Soon after, the New York Timesincorrectly reported that the inspectors general requested a criminal investigation into Clinton’s email use — as opposed to a security referral. But the newspaper later issued two corrections. The referral was in connection with Clinton’s account, not whether Clinton herself mishandled information, and did not allege criminal activity.

Officials told reporters at the time that the FBI was not targeting Clinton specifically.”

How did the information become so misconstrued? Did Jeb miss the corrections made by the New York Times?

“Earlier this month, Fox News reported that the FBI was broadening its investigation to look into whether any connection between the State Department under Clinton and the nonprofit Clinton Foundation violated public corruption laws. Clinton denied that FBI was pursuing this line of inquiry.

However, Fox bases its report on unnamed sources, so we cannot independently verify it, nor have any major media outlets.”

So where did Jeb get his unverifiable and untrue information on Hillary Clinton?

KILMEADE: So, you believe, Governor, that the problems are that bad and your sources say the indictment could be coming?

BUSH: I don’t — I only get my news from Fox & Friends, so that’s all I get. All I’m saying is that she’s under investigation by the FBI. Just pause and think about that. That’s not, that’s a pretty uncommon thing for a presidential candidate. And each and every week it just seems like there’s more information. Now there’s, according to Fox again there’s expanded investigation on the connection with the Clinton Foundation. This is a serious deal. So I’m, look, I want to win. I think the Republicans need to win. We need to unify. Hillary Clinton would be an unmitigated disaster for ideological purposes. But she also has this legal problem that would really undermine our country.”

That explains it. After all, studies have proven that viewers of Fox News are consistently the most misinformed. In fact, even participants of the study who don’t watch news at all were more informed about world events than Fox News’ viewers.
