The California woman who attacked a group of Muslim men that were praying in a public park on December 5 is now claiming that she is the real victim.

Denise Slader, who is employed by the California Department of Corrections, appeared in court earlier this week and told a judge that she has been harassed by the man who shot the video—Rasheed Albeshaeri—and his supporters.

Slader’s attorney, Jerry Lipkin. asked the judge to order Albeshaeri and his friends to stop contacting Slader. District Attorney Tim Wellman told the judge that Slader has only received one anonymous letter and there is no absolutely evidence it came from Albeshaeri, adding:

“To conclude it’s coming from the victim is pure and rampant speculation.”

Ms. Slader entered a plea of not guilty on Thursday on misdemeanor hate crime and battery charges, stemming from the incident that occurred last year. At that time, as shown on video, Slader was seen shouting at the praying Muslims before throwing her coffee at them. Video of the incident was posted on You Tube and quickly went viral.

The prosecutor had requested that Slader’s bail be set at $10,000, but Judge Andrew Steckler released the woman on her own recognizance with an  ordered for her to not contact Albeshaeri and to also stay away from Chabot Regional Park where the incident occurred.

A trial date has been set for Slader’s case on April 4.
