Had the medical staff at Calhoun Liberty Hospital in Blountstown, Florida, been doing their jobs and providing medical attention to those who show up in their emergency room, Barbara Dawson might still be alive. Instead, Ms. Dawson was examined, told to leave the hospital, and police were called to handcuff and remove her when she continued to complain she didn’t feel well.

A day later, Barbara Dawson died of a blood clot in her lungs.

This story begins on December 20, when Dawson arrived at Calhoun Liberty complaining of severe abdominal pain. Hospital staff told her she was fine and that she needed to go home. But Dawson refused. Police were called, and as Daryl Parks, an attorney for Dawson’s family noted:

“Barbara Dawson…lost her life because of a bad assumption.”

Dawson’s death is now under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and local police and hospital administrators are attempting to cover their own asses. Mark Mallory, Blountstown chief of police, maintains that his department handled the incident properly and deferred to medical first-responders on the scene. Hospital administrator Ruth Attaway says Calhoun Liberty is cooperating fully with investigators.

But attorneys for the Dawson family are adamant that Dawson’s death is due to negligence. Benjamin Crump, an attorney for the family, remarked at a press conference:

“You hear them insisting that she is going to jail. You also hear hospital personnel repeating to her. There’s nothing wrong with you,’ as she continues to be in distress.”

Crump also said that a police officer can be heard commenting that Ms. Dawson was faking her illness:

“You hear him saying to the captain, ‘I thought she was just being non-compliant.'”

Now a woman is dead and those responsible for her death are attempting to make it seem as if they played no part in her demise. Sounds to me like some of these so-called “healers” need to go back and read the Hippocratic Oath.
