With Just Six Words, Sarah Silverman Makes Conservatives Foam At The Mouth

Whether or not you think comedian Sarah Silverman is funny (and I do), you can probably guess the kind of right wing furor she set off when she posted this on her Twitter account Christmas Day:

“MERRY CHRISTMAS! Jesus was gender fluid!”

Tasteless? Maybe. I’m a Christian and it doesn’t exactly make me smile, but then again, it doesn’t make my head feel like it’s about to explode, either. But I’m not a conservative. Conservatives got really really pissed off with Silverman, with some saying it was a “desperate attempt” by Silverman “to remain relevant.” Another person wrote and posted this in response to Silverman’s joke:

“Jesus was not gender fluid! Says nowhere in the Bible or in any other teachings. Jesus was a man and you are Jewish and know nothing about my savior and shouldn’t be making jokes about Him on Christmas, the day of His birth. You just lost a fan.”

There ya go: Head right into the anti-Semitic universe while completely forgetting that Jesus was also Jewish. Or was that not in the Sunday School lesson you obviously didn’t bother to pay attention to?

Others on social media tried to take their frustrations out in various ways:

And, as you might expect, others had to try and accuse Silverman of not having the guts to attack the Prophet Muhammad. Seems they’re just fine with attacking religion when it isn’t the one they subscribe to:

Then we had the blatantly anti-Semitic posts which only highlight the hypocrisy of those who are offended yet have no problem denigrating another faith:

I keep hoping that one day all of us will learn that just because someone finds humor in what you consider to be holy or sacred, that doesn’t mean it’s a personal attack on you. Consider this: God has a sense of humor. After all, he created humans.
