VA GOP Wants To Eliminate Bodyguards For Governor Because He’s Pro Gun Control

Proving yet again just how deeply in the pocket of the National Rifle Association (NRA) the Republican Party truly is, GOP members of the Virginia General Assembly are proposing bills to completely eliminate all bodyguards or other forms of protection from Democratic Governor Terry McMcAuliffe simply because he happens to be in favor of sensible gun control in his state.

Republican State Senator Bill Carrico, who has introduced an amendment to the budget which would strip McAuliffe of his armed security detail, was practically flapping his arms and crowing when he told the press this week:

“A lot of the governor’s power is deferred to the General Assembly at that point and I’ll be getting with my colleagues to circumvent everything this governor has done on this point. I have a budget amendment that I’m looking at to take away his executive protection unit. If he’s so afraid of guns, then I’m not going to surround him with armed state policemen.”

While you’re at it, Senator Carrico, why not mandate that the governor also wear a suit with a bullseye on the back of it?

What started all of this hateful rhetoric and behavior by the Virginia GOP is a new law signed by Governor McAuliffe which no longer recognizes concealed carry permits which have been issued from 25 named states. In other words, if you happen to be spending time in Virginia, you cannot carry your weapon of mass mayhem and murder unless you get a permit from the state of Virginia. Seems pretty reasonable, and aren’t Republicans supposed to be in favor of “state’s rights?” Sure they are, except when it comes to instruments of death.

This whole rhubarb is even further proof–if indeed any was needed–of just how far the GOP in this country will go to suck up to the NRA and the gun industry in order to secure their blessings and campaign contributions. The Republican Party is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the NRA. They are puppets dancing on the end of a blood-soaked string.

For Senator Carrico and his cronies who want everyone to be able to carry whatever gun they wish wherever they choose, I have this message from the majority of Americans: You are going to lose, so get used to it.
