Donald Trump Spokesperson: There’s No Point In Having Nukes If You Won’t Use Them

Donald Trump and the rest of his campaign team seem to be invoking the spirit of “Dr. Strangelove” these days. During a recent appearance on Fox News, the Republican presidential campaign frontrunner’s chief spokesperson Katrina Pierson made it clear his campaign feels like it’s a waste of a nuclear bomb if you’re afraid to use it. During her appearance on The O’Reilly Factor, Pierson was talking about how most of Donald Trump’s opponents were all talk when it came to waging war.

Pierson first claimed that Donald Trump is the only candidate that would follow through on attacks if he felt America was threatened. The campaign spokesperson then said:

“What good does it do to have a good nuclear triad, if you’re afraid to use it?”

Pierson then seemed to leave the point behind as she moved on to her displeasure over all the finger pointing and name calling. Eric Bolling, filling in for Bill O’Reilly, didn’t seem to want to touch the nuclear comment. Instead, he moved on to heaping praise on Russian president Vladimir Putin, despite the fact Putin has largely been considered America’s enemy before he said some kind words about a Republican presidential candidate.

Another guest on the show, Desert Storm veteran Kurt Schlichter was rather unnerved by Donald Trump and his campaigns thoughts about nuclear weapons. When it was his turn to speak, he proclaimed:

“The point of the nuclear triad is to be afraid to use the damn thing. You want to scare the hell out of the other side. And frankly, my side will be more scared if Donald Trump gets his finger on the button.”

This led to a rather heated exchange between Pierson and Schlichter over whether or not Donald Trump has any understanding of America’s nuclear arsenal.

Pierson’s comments seem to be in line with her boss, who was questioned about which part of the Nuclear Triad Mr. Trump finds most important. As the Rolling Stone points out, the presidential hopeful danced around the question for a while before closing his answer with, “I think, for me, nuclear is just the power, the devastation is very important to me.”

This type of thoughtless comment is nothing new for the Trump campaign. Pierson has previously gone on the record showing the same kind blithely ignorant outlook on immigration. The Donald Trump campaign spokesperson once claimed there was nothing wrong with banning Muslim immigrants with a simple, “so what?”
