Top NBA Referee: ‘I’m Gay And Proud, Deal With It’

“You’re a faggot!”

Sometimes one wonders what the fuss is all about…

The gay movement has swept through a host of countries, America included, and quite rightly, gay people have been accepted by law to be who they want to be. That’s the essence of the freedom of choice and expression, I believe. However, being gay comes with its own issues and the gay movement hasn’t really found it smooth-sailing in its stand for its rights.

From seemingly religious folks to the agnostic, they have to defend themselves to a wide range of people cut across different backgrounds and orientations.

The latest in their battle to assert their rights happened in sports – the NBA.

NBA top referee Bill Kennedy came out to declare his “gayness” after the matchup between the Boston Celtics and the Sacramento Kings on December 3, 2015. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Kennedy, who has been exceptional in his 18-year career, did the coming out after Sacramento Kings Guard Rajon Rondo threw some anti-gay slurs at him.

Rondo had been suspended after a plethora of technical fouls and instead of taking the referee’s decision in good faith, he began to stalk him, beginning a quite disturbing diatribe and making statements like; You’re a mother——- faggot. … You’re a f—— faggot, Billy.”

This turn of events was confirmed by three officials — Kennedy, Taylor and Adams — with Rondo missing the game against Houston Rockets and $86,300 in game salary due to the suspension.

According to Kennedy, he is proud of being gay and he backs this up by saying:

“I am proud to be an NBA referee and I am proud to be a gay man,” Kennedy told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night. “I am following in the footsteps of others who have self-identified in the hopes that will send a message to young men and women in sports that you must allow no one to make you feel ashamed of who you are.”
