It’s deja-vu all over again.
Trump spews some horrible, privileged, hate-filled anti-Muslim sentiment. Everyone is shocked. No one except for the white-supremacist core of Trump’s support base can believe that this is a real presidential candidate from one of the two major parties, running for an actual political position, let alone running for POTUS.
And then something unbelievable happens: Trump’s popularity rises. All the other wannabe GOP candidates do their best impression of the Trump vitriol in order to try to goose their own poll numbers.
Trump says we should build a wall between the US and Mexico? Scott Walker says we should build a wall between the US and Canada.
Trump says Mexicans are all drug dealers and rapists? Ben Carson says Muslims can’t be president.
Trump is like Regina George in Mean Girls— he is the Queen Bee Mean Girl of the GOP. And all the other Republican candidates are so many Gretchen Weinerses. (Note to the reader: If you didn’t understand that reference, you really should watch the movie– it’s excellent.)
Now Trump has said that the US should not allow any Muslims in. This awful anti-Muslim sentiment is completely in opposition to what this country was founded on, and blatantly goes against the Constitution’s division between church and state. But that doesn’t stop the GOP.
The Queen Bee can’t be stopped. Fully f**king 42 percent of Republicans polled reported that they agreed with Trump’s insane idea, whereas only 36 percent are opposed.
Really, Republicans? Don’t you know that Trump’s crazy rants and ramblings are just pushing your whole party more and more right into fascism? Because Trump is one of the top candidates right now for your nomination to run for President of the United States. Don’t you know what a joke you all would be if that happened? Hard to believe you’d be more of a laughingstock than you already are, but it will happen if DJT is the name on the ballot in November 2016.
Of course that won’t happen. You will wake up before that happens. Because you realize that whichever nominee you name will have to fight against Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders for the presidency. While the dyed-in-the-wool Repubs may agree with Trump’s nonsense, that s**t’s not gonna fly in a presidential election.
But by the time you wise up, the damage of your insanely far right anti-Muslim (and anti-everyone else) sentiment will be done.
