This Chilling Trailer From The Upcoming Netflix Series Will Haunt You (Video)

Netflix is set to premiere an original 10-part documentary series on December 18, the first of it’s kind from the site that brought us “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black.”

The documentary tells the story of Steven Avery, a Wisconsin man convicted of raping Penny Ann Beernsten on the night of July 29, 1985. Avery maintained his innocence and produced no less than 16 people who could corroborate his whereabouts on the night in question. Even the police said they knew they had the wrong guy, but Avery still spent 18 years in prison before DNA evidence finally exonerated him and the real rapist was found.

After Avery’s lawyers gathered evidence that his conviction was based on pressure to pin the rape on Steven Avery despite any physical evidence tying him to the scene of the crime because of a sherriff’s and a judge’s biased demands, Avery sued the county for taking 18 years of his life from him for $36 million dollars. Before that lawsuit could be presented in court, Avery was arrested and thrown in prison again.

This time, he was convicted of murder…with no body and absolutely no established motive.

This Netflix trailer promises a gut-wrenching ride that will haunt you and leave you wondering just how many American citizens sit in prison, wrongfully convicted, and what political and personal motivations may lie behind those stories. Could this happen to you?
