Pres. Obama’s Favorite 2015 Film Is…

By now, we all know that President Barack Obama is a huge movie fan. Among his favorite movies are Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia, and The Godfather I and II (but not III).  As a result of his love for the silver screen, movie fanatics enjoy discovering which recent movies are his favorite.

In the past few years, his picks have been about life-transforming movies such as Boyhood and Life of Pi. This year, People Magazine revealed Obama’s favorite movie is Ridley Scott’s sci-fi thriller, The Martian.

This screen adaption of Andy Wier’s novel (with the same title), earned over $570 million worldwide. It has been such a popular hit, and really no surprise that this is Obama’s favorite, because it is a story of single man’s survival as he is stranded on Mars. It is also a story about how not only the U.S., but the entire world, rallies behind the effort in saving a single astronaut who was left for dead.

Beyond his favorite movie of 2015, Obama also picked the following as some of his favorite things in 2015:

SONG: Kendrick Lamar’s “How Much a Dollar Cost

BOOK: Lauren Groff’s Fates and Furies

TV SHOW: Cinemax’s The Knick

FAVORITE MOMENT:  Obama said, “The gathering outside the White House following the Supreme Court ruling upholding the right of same sex couples to marry.

First lady, Michelle Obama, also picked her favorite things for 2015 from Inside Out as her favorite movie to Uptown Funk as her favorite song.

I know some out there don’t particularly care about trivial insights into the personal life of the Obamas and would rather stick to just politics. I, for one, find it refreshing that the President and the First Lady have lives beyond politics — family, love of music, books, and movies.  For crying out loud, even the President needs to unwind from time to time.
