It is rare that a liberal news outlet will applaud the actions of a Republican, but I am writing today to applaud and thank Lindsey Graham for having the balls to say what no one else will. These Lindsey Graham quotes may well have changed the tone of the entire race for the GOP nomination.
Tuesday morning on CNN’s “New Day” program, Lindsey Graham spoke directly to supporters of Donald Trump in an earnest plea to them to come to their senses and dump Trump. When Alisyn Camerota asked what his reaction to Trump was, I’m sure she did not expect this:
“Disgusted. I want to talk to the Trump supporters for a minute.”
“I don’t know who you are and why you like this guy. He’s going to take all of the problems of the world and put them in a box and make your life better. That’s what he’s selling.”
“Here’s what you’re buying. He’s a race-baiting, xenophobic religious bigot. He doesn’t represent my party. He doesn’t represent the values that the men and women who wear the uniform are fighting for.”
“He’s the ISIL Man of the Year. The enemy will use that rhetoric against us.”
Graham explained how the total ban on Muslims proposed by Trump will work against us, and is actually empowering the terrorist group and undercutting everything that the United States is working toward on the world stage.
Graham is a 33-year Air Force veteran, and he has nothing flattering to say about Trump or his actions during this campaign. He calmly explains why and how Trump’s words and actions are detrimental to the United States and outlines a very cohesive plan on how to win the war against ISIL and religious extremism.
Although Graham is polling very low, he is emerging as one of the most level-headed and sane GOP candidates in the queue. Tease him about being gay, not having a wife, or whatever you want – he displayed more balls during this interview than the entire remainder of the lineup combined.
