Texas Senator Ted Cruz, while on a campaign tour through Iowa yesterday, said that Democrats have created a bogus “war on women,” and want to restrict a women’s access to birth control. The evidence he used to support his allegation? Get ready for this one:

“The last I checked, we don’t have a rubber shortage in America.”

Are you freaking kidding me, Teddy Boy?! Did you really just say that? But Cruz was far from finished, adding:

“Look, when I was in college, we had a machine in the bathroom. You’d put 50 cents in and voila! So yes, anyone who wants contraceptives can access them, but it is an utterly made-up, nonsense issue.”

Then Cruz launched into a thinly-veiled attack on Hillary Clinton, telling those who gathered to hear him speak:

“So what do you do? You go, ‘Aha! The condom police. I’m going to make up a completely made-up threat and try to scare a bunch of folks that are not paying a lot of attention into thinking someone’s going to steal their birth control.’”

Reporters who were present for the Cruz campaign event noted that there was awkward laughter in the crowd, especially when Cruz said he and his wife Heidi have two girls and are “very glad we don’t have 17.”

Too much information! Way too much information!

What Cruz failed to address (because he knows he would lose the debate) is the how the GOP does indeed conduct a War on Women. They seek to eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood. They pass legislation at the state and federal level that virtually eliminates a woman’s access to family planning services, including birth control and abortion.

As Kaylie Hanson, the DNC’s director of women’s media, rightly noted:

“Ted Cruz was right about one thing tonight: Republicans are ‘completely puzzled’ when it comes to women’s health care. His insistence that condoms are a substitute for the contraception many women need to prevent unintended pregnancies, and for other health reasons, shows he hasn’t got a clue when it comes to women’s health.”

No wonder this asshat is steadily rising in the polls. Like all of the Republican candidates for President, he has no idea what he’s talking about. Sadly, however, this does not keep him from speaking.
