Sarah Palin took to Facebook today to offer her pro-gun brand of sympathy to the victims of domestic terrorism at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs.
Of course, she couldn’t simply discuss how tragic is the loss of innocent lives, including that of a university police officer, or express her condolences to the families who lost loved ones or the three officers and two other victims recovering from gunshot wounds today. Her message not-so-subtly had to include some pro-gun sentiments, as well.
Note that three separate times in her post, Palin mentions that “senseless acts of violence” are not always committed using guns. In fact, she lists beatings and stabbings, neither of which appear to have been a part of the gunman’s tactics in Colorado Springs, before shootings. Twice, she asserts that acts of violence “using any weapon” are wrong.
However, Robert Louis Dear could not possibly have carried out this attack with a plan of beating or stabbing anyone. He could not have set up propane tanks in the parking lot of the clinic and then threw knives at them in an attempt to kill more people and prevent police from ending his attack. Armed officers would not be dead and injured today if Dear had merely attempted to beat them or stab them.
How many lives must be lost to senseless gun violence before the GOP will admit that change is desperately needed? How many acts of domestic terrorism must be committed by white, American men using GUNS, not knives or fists, before the GOP will admit where the real threat lies?
