FBI Warned Abortion Clinics Of Attacks Like The Colorado Springs Shooting

The fact that three are dead and a total of nine were injured after the standoff at the Colorado Springs, Colo. Planned Parenthood between a lone gunman and the Colorado Springs, Colo., Police Department is a true tragedy with three people were killed and even more injured by now identified lone gunman Robert L. Dear.

What makes this incident even more tragic is that the FBI warned abortion clinics and reproductive health centers nationwide “months ago” that attacks like this one would come.

FBI Warned Abortion Clinics ‘Months Ago’

In the wake of the tragic Nov. 27 shooting, CBS News reminds the nation that the FBI warned clinics like Planned Parenthood in September about the potential for increased extremist attacks in an FBI Intelligence Assessment sent to abortion clinics nationwide.

As a precaution to the Colorado Springs shootout, the New York City Police Department sent “critical response vehicles” to Planned Parenthood clinics in New York.

Although Dear’s motive is not yet known, that he ran for and barricaded himself inside the Planned Parenthood clinic – one of the clinics featured in the Center for medial Progress fetal body part video scam – is telling.

According to CBS News, there were a minimum of “nine criminal or suspicious incidents” directly related to the now discredited and heavily doctored CMP videos released in July between July and September.

The FBI expected the violence to escalate, and has noted that so far, offenders behind the Planned Parenthood and other abortion and reproductive health clinic attacks appear to be:

Lone offenders using tactics of arsons [sic] and threats all of which are typical of the pro-life extremist movement.”

According to CBS News, reporter Jeff Pegues said that “criminal or suspicious incidents” would happen, and when they do, they’d be directed towards “reproductive health care providers, their staff and facilities.”

The FBI issued the warning after two attacks, one in Washington, and another in California, according to Mashable. Lt. Buckley reiterated the warning during a press briefing regarding the Colorado Springs standoff inside the lobby of Planned Parenthood Friday.

While the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood did have a security plan in place for a “just in case” moment like the one that happened on Friday, according to a spokesperson via MSNBC, New York and Boston appear to be the only states stepping up security. This is in spite of now at least 10 incidents of extremism aimed at abortion clinics, and the FBI warning.

What’s worse is that the FBI and the GOP refuse to label homegrown right wing extremists as domestic terrorists, even though they are becoming much more extreme by the moment, but they continue to gripe over President Obama’s refusal to label the Islamic religion “radical Islam.”
