University Of Missouri President Resigns Amid Claims Of Racial Bias

This is HUGE! Students at the University of Missouri have had the President of the entire four school system, Tim Wolfe, removed. This comes amid claims of the President ignoring racist incidents taking place on campus at the University of Missouri system.

Wolfe announced:

“My motivation in making this decision comes from love. I love MU, Columbia, where I grew up, the state of Missouri. I take full responsibility for this frustration. I take full responsibility for this inaction.”

Tensions have been escalating dramatically over the last year, after an unarmed black man, Michael Brown, was shot and killed in Ferguson, Missouri. The University’s response was lacking, according to many students.

One graduate student, Jonathan Butler, had gone on hunger strike, in the midst of protests calling for the President of the University of Missouri system to resign amid claims that he had not done enough to fight against on-campus racism.

Recent racist incidents include the shouting of racial slurs at the President of the Missouri Student Association. He penned a story about it on social media which then went viral.

On October 24, a swastika made from human faeces was drawn on a college dorm wall, which led to the aforementioned Jonathan Butler’s hunger strike.

A week later, Wolfe stated that racism was unacceptable and that he planned to tackle the problem. He later apologised for his reaction, and expressed concern for Butler’s health. None of this appeased the student body, and they drew up a list of demands, which included his resignation.

What seemed to finally push Wolfe over the edge, was the threat of a boycott from the playing and coaching staff of the college football team. A group of 32 African-Americans refused to take part in training until Tim Wolfe had stepped down. Here is the official statement from the undergraduate student government at the University of Missouri.
