Why do the very same people who urge us to have a baby turn on us the moment we get pregnant? They are filled with the glories of babyhood and tell us we are meant for mothering. Then as soon as the pregnancy test is positive, the horror stories start.
Chrissy Teigen, model and TV host, and her musician husband John Legend are all too familiar with pregnancy criticism. Teigen recently brought us their good news via social media.
After all their difficulty getting pregnant, this was wonderful to hear. The couple’s long struggle with in vitro fertilization (IVF) made her tweets all the sweeter.
IVF is a complicated procedure which collects a woman’s eggs from her ovaries. Then those eggs are fertilized with sperm in the laboratory and implanted in the woman’s uterus (womb). No one can guarantee a successful pregnancy.
Moments after Teigen started her excited pregnancy news, the critics’ dive-bombing began.
Teigen put this on her Instagram:
Here are just a few of the poisonous tweets the trolls hurled:
Teigen decided to give the trolls hell. I love it!

Being pregnant is not easy. Our bodies are rapidly changing, our emotions are running all over the place, and our thoughts walk back and forth on the edge of worry. The last thing we need is a hurricane of critics. Teigen stood up for herself, and I think that makes her one of our heroes.
