Richard Branson Wants To End The War On Drugs (Video)

Richard Branson has always been a different type of Billionaire. His free spirit and marketing style have set him leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the snobby and closed-minded people in the elite group he is a member of. He says what he thinks and goes outside the boundaries in both his personal and professional life. He has done it yet again.

Branson has called on the UN to put pressure on governments around the world to end the failed war on drugs. Branson shared the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), which he says has dramatically changed the organization’s stance on drug control. He was hesitant about releasing his statement but feared the UN would:

“bow to pressure by not going ahead with this important move.”

While some people may think the war on drugs isn’t that big of a deal, Branson knows that it is. According to a report from Independent.com, he reflected that sentiment in statement he released about the UN and the decision they need to make:

“As I’m writing this I am hearing that at least one government is putting an inordinate amount of pressure on the UNODC,” he said. “Let us hope the UNODC, a global organisation that is part of the UN and supposed to do what is right for the people of the world, does not do a remarkable volte-face at the last possible moment and bow to pressure by not going ahead with this important move. The war on drugs has done too much damage to too many people already.”

Many people agree that the failed war on drugs has cost this country far more than just money. It has destroyed homes, lives, and budgets for many decades since it was started. It needs to be stopped. Check out these links and the video to see the data and statistics on the war being waged to help support for profit prisons and greedy lawmakers. I’m glad we have a man with the power and money to finally address a serious issue. I think I will fly Virgin airlines next time I make a trip!
