We liberals say this all the time: “Pres. Obama has cleaned up former Pres. George W. Bush’s messes.” While it’s true, and we KNOW it’s true, there’s nothing that will drive a point home better than a visual.
The White House has released via Twitter a chart that proves that the deficit has been reduced by “nearly three-fourths” under Pres. Barack Obama. Here it is:
As pointed out by Groopspeak writer Antiphon Freeman:
As a percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the deficit fell to 2.5 percent, the lowest it’s been since 2007. To put this in perspective, that’s less than President Ronald Reagan has ever accomplished.
It’s important to note that Pres. Obama inherited an epic mess — one of the largest budget deficits in U.S. history.
Also pointed out by Groopspeak:
For Republicans, that like to say: “Well we still have an enormous mounting debt problem, this doesn’t address those concerns.” Well, they’re right. But, you can’t blame Obama on this without blaming almost every other American President going back over the last 80 years. This is how America has primarily operated as a country.
Bush doubled the national debt and Republican God Ronald Reagan increased the debt by a whopping 186 percent.
Here is the source data and here is the tweet from the White House.
