If we needed any further proof that the House Select Committee on Benghazi is nothing but a political hatchet job on Hillary Clinton, it has now been provided by Alabama GOP Congressman Mo Brooks.

Brooks, speaking to radio host Matt Murphy, said that the problem he has with Secretary Clinton maintaining a private email server is:

“How many lives she put at risk by violating all rules of law that are designed to protect America’s top-secret and classified information from falling into the hands of our geopolitical foes who then might use that information to result in the deaths of Americans.”

Well, Congressman Brooks, if that’s the case, then how many lives did Colin Powell put at risk by also using a non-State Department email account? Are you ready to start hearings against him, too?

The jackass from Alabama also said he and the GOP plan to make this an issue as Clinton seeks the Democratic nomination, the White House, and beyond:

“And in my judgement, with respect to Hillary Clinton, she will be a unique president if she is elected by the public next November, because the day she’s sworn in is the day that she’s subject to impeachment because she has committed high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Impeachment? Really? Didn’t Congressman Brooks and his Republican cronies try that trick against President Bill Clinton? How did that turn out for them? And what would those high crimes and misdemeanors be, Congressman? When contacted, his office did not return a request for any details about a so-called impeachment plan.

Secretary Clinton will testify on Thursday before this Mickey Mouse collection of GOP hacks when she appears to answer questions from the committee. I for one hope she reminds them of the statements made by House Majority leader Kevin McCarthy and others who have said in no uncertain terms that this entire fiasco has been an attempt to derail the Clinton campaign.
