Racists Furious That MLK Memorial Will Be Built At ‘Confederate Mount Rushmore’

People who cling to the symbols of the Confederacy just love to claim that they want to preserve history and that their zeal for all things that bring to mind the days of slavery in the old South have nothing at all to do with hatred or racism.

And, of course, pigs are now piloting non-stop flights from New York to Los Angeles.

At Stone Mountain Park in Georgia, which is the home of a giant carving of three of the biggest traitors in American history–Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson–there will soon be a memorial to a true hero of the South, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. But from the furious reaction of some die-hard haters, you’d think someone had proposed scraping the mural off the side of Stone Mountain.

The planned memorial will feature a replica of the Liberty Bell, complete with the inscription  “Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia,”–which is a line from Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. There will also be a memorial to black Confederate soldiers. All of which sounds like an idea that is long overdue.

But take a look at some of the vile crap that these so-called “history lovers” have dished out online in the days since the MLK memorial was announced. And as you read them, tell me whether their motivation is history or just pure hatred:

Yeah, these gigantic heaps of steaming human excrement are just concerned with history. The only history they have any knowledge of is the same one that led to the Civil War: The history of hatred, bigotry, and the ignorant belief that a person’s skin color denotes so-called superiority.

As a Georgia native, I say the memorial to Dr. King at Stone Mountain is long overdue. And if it rubs these racist jerks the wrong way, so much the better.
