When Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN) called the GOP hearings on Planned Parenthood “politics” in the same vein as the Benghazi hearings, Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) took great offense.
In the middle of questioning fired-Planned Parenthood employee-turned-Christian-Conservative Susan Thayer, Gohmert seemed to forget his train of thought about Benghazi Planned Parenthood.
He begins his line of questioning Thayer by asking about lawyers who work for Planned Parenthood. Thayer replies that there are lawyers who work for Planned Parenthood, as well as a Political Action Committee. Gohmert asks how many of those lawyers perform mammograms. Um, what?
Next, Gohmert addresses the myth that Planned Parenthood provides mammograms. Thayer, smiling cordially, agrees that they do not.
Neither mentions the other types of breast cancer screenings that are offered by Planned Parenthood, or the millions of women without sufficient income to pay doctor’s fees and co-pays to receive this type of screening at Planned Parenthood, nor do they mention those screenings’ success at early detection of breast cancer.
Gohmert goes on with some insinuations for a moment that it’s really the lawyers wanting money that’s motivating Planned Parenthood to stay open, not offering reproductive and other health care services to low-income women. Of course, he throws in some support for profiting off women’s health care, insisting we should give Planned Parenthood’s funding to private health care providers. Because, you know, every woman can always go to a private health care provider.
But then, it happens. He loses his whole line of questioning at 2:45 seconds in and spends the rest of his time ranting about Benghazi and blaming its “politicization” on the Democrats, because they’re the ones who’ve wasted countless hours and taxpayer dollars on committee hearings about Benghazi.
Gohmert yells and rants and politicizes Benghazi, all while criticizing Democrats for politicizing Benghazi. He blames the president, Secretary of State, and the entire Obama administration, despite Republican-led panels debunking the entire scandal by saying there was:
“No intelligence failure, no delay in sending a CIA rescue team, no missed opportunity for a military rescue, and no evidence the CIA was covertly shipping arms from Libya to Syria.”
Funny, but it really does seem similar to the Planned Parenthood hearings.
