A male black student was suspended from school for simply staring at a white girl. Sadly, the reality is, this is an apparent case of discrimination on the part of the private Catholic school, St. Gabriel Consolidated.
According to the young boy, unidentified, both the boy and girl were participating in a staring contest. However, an Ohio court upheld his suspension, even after he wrote an apology saying basically he had no idea she was fearful after the incident. Court documents even went as far as to say the girl “felt fearful.”
The girl’s feeling of fear was the original reason the school decided to suspend the young boy. The young boy went to great lengths to apologize for the incident saying the following in his apology:
“I never knew she was scared because she was laughing. I understand I done the wrong thing that will never happen again. I will start to think before I do so I am not in this situation.”
This apology almost brings you to tears. How can this school district justify this clear case of discrimination? And if you are still skeptical even after this, get prepared for more details.
The boy’s parents were the original people who filed the suit that called for the suspension to be removed from the boy’s record. The boy’s mother, Candice Talbort, had this to say about the incident:
“The perception is he intimidated her. My son stared at a girl who was engaged in a staring game. She giggled the entire time.”
In fact, the mother went on to describe the fact that the young white girl had previously been involved in some very bad behavior that led to NO repercussions. Here is what Talbort said about the girl’s incident:
“The same girl that accused my son of this act of perception of intimidation, aggressively poured milk on someone else’s lunch. When she did that there was no penalties for that. She received nothing for that.”
If at this point it isn’t clear this young boy was discriminated against for being black I am not sure what would make it clear. The young white girl can easily get away with anything, while a black boy plays a game and gets suspended at the instant claim of this white girl.
Of course, the school administrator’s are using any excuse that they can find in the fine text of their school handbook. In fact, they used the following as justification for their clear racism:
“The principal is the final recourse in all disciplinary matters and may waive any and all rules at his/her discretion for just cause.”
What a complete and utter joke! It is honestly sad that this school wants to launch us right back into the stone ages!
