Sometimes, keeping tabs on current events can get kind of mundane from day to day. Then someone like Jon Hendren comes along and makes Headline News (HLN) interesting again.
Hendren is known for pranks and making interesting videos on his YouTube channel. So when Hendren was set to appear on HLN to speak about Edward Snowden, I knew things were going to get interesting. During his appearance, Hendren did not disappoint.
Speaking as a “Snowden Supporter,” Hendren began to speak on the issue of Snowden being a patriot or not. As the HLN host asked questions regarding Snowden, Hendren answered back about Edward. Edward Scissorhands that is. While Hendren spoke of Scissorhands, the HLN host seemed so caught up in reading from her prompter, she seemed to miss the switch that Hendren pulled on live TV.
After the HLN host asked a question about whether or not some of the classified information Snowden released was worth the risk, Hendren replied by saying:
“Well you know to say that he couldn’t harm somebody, you know with what he did, like he could. Absolutely he could have. But I think to cast him out, to make him invalid in society, simply because he has scissors for hands, I mean that’s so strange. Because I mean, people didn’t get scared until he started sculpting shrubs into dinosaur shapes and whatnot.”
Without missing a beat, the HLN host continues. She then makes this statement:
“Listen, some people say it’s hypocritical that Snowden has asylum in Russia, and Russia has a lot of human rights violations.”
Hendren replies in epic fashion by saying:
“Well yeah, casting him out is just completely wrong. We’re treating him like an animal, like someone who should be quarantined and put away. Just because he was created on top of a mountain by Vincent Price and incomplete, with scissors for hands and no heart, Edward Scissorhands is a complete hero to me.”
Again, without missing a beat, the HLN host continues by asking:
“But what about the choice that he made to live in a country like Russia?”
It’s here that Hendren puts the icing on the cake in this HLN interview by responding with:
“I mean where else is he gonna go, you know? We cast him out, like, we got scared when he poked a hole in a waterbed with his scissor finger. Like, that was just unreasonable of us.”
Bravo Mr. Hendren, for showing the indifference in which the mainstream media gives us the news. What happened to guys like Tom Brokaw?
