Republican Indiana Majority House Leader Steps Down After Sex Video Leak

I get so tired of hearing Republicans speak of “family values.” We’re human; we all make mistakes, but for some reason, Republican politicians seem to think they have the market on morality covered. Unfortunately for Republican Indiana House Majority Leader Jud McMillan, his two-faced views have caught up with him again.

I say “again” because according to The New Civil Rights Movement:

“This is not the first time this Tea Party Republican resigned from a position after explicit images of him were involved. McMillan stepped down from his role as an assistant prosecutor after pursuing a relationship with a domestic violence victim whose boyfriend he had been prosecuting. According to the Bilerico Project, the victim received photos from McMillan, showing him involved in several sexual acts”.

So this Republican “family values” man has been keeping it classy for a while. Was it really a surprise, then, that on Sept. 29, McMillan stepped down as a state lawmaker when a sex video was sent from his cellphone? It’s still unknown who sent the sex video or how many people actually received it, but someone came forward with it. As Patheos reports:

“It’s uncertain if the other ‘actor’ in the sex video was McMillan’s wife, but I doubt he’d be resigning if it was.”

After the video was released, McMillan quickly tried do some damage control. As reported by The Daily Beast, McMillan texted this to his contacts:

“My phone was stolen in Canada and out of my control for about 24 hours… ‘I have just been able to reactivate it under my control. Please disregard any messages you received recently. I am truly sorry for anything offensive you may have received.’”

I’ll just leave that right there in case you believe him. But in the meantime, keep in mind that this is the same man that helped block a bill in which “revenge porn” would have been criminalized in his state. Ironic, isn’t it?

He is also a supporter of the Religious Freedom Act and voted to ban “…same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partner benefits in his state.”

He also made this statement:

“I will protect the integrity of the institution of marriage. I believe that a marriage is a union of a man and a woman before their peers, government, and most importantly, God. In southeastern Indiana the family has always been the foundation of our strength of community. Our relationships with our wives, husbands, parents, children, siblings and other loved ones provides the glue that binds our common purpose. In these times of turmoil, the rest of the country could learn something from our example”.

So quite honestly, this couldn’t have happened to a better person. As for his stepping down, the New York Daily News quoted him as saying:

“I have decided the time is right for me to pass the torch… Now I want to focus all of my attention on making my family’s world a better place”.

I’m sure this married father of four will do a bang-up job teaching his family some wonderful values with his upcoming extra time.
