GOP Congressman Says Benghazi Is Actually About WHAT?

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, was on Fox News Monday night discussing Hillary Clinton and Benghazi. And boy did he put his foot in his mouth! In an interview with Fox’ Sean Hannity, he stated:

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi Special Committee — a Select Committee — what are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping.”

Um….is the Majority Leader, who could take over the House with the resignation of Speaker Boehner, really admitting that this Benghazi committee and related hearings are over polling and politics, not the truth of what happened?! WHAT A SHOCKER! Not.

Republicans have been out to get the Clintons for decades. We know this. I, and many in the Clinton camp (either officially or as supporters) have been saying that when it comes to Benghazi, there’s no there, there. We have played verbal Olympics with this issue over, and over, and over, and over, yet nothing has come of it. Was this about honestly questioning Hillary? Because no one, not President Obama, the DOJ, Republicans in Congress, NSA, CIA, FBI, etc., have been able to find any evidence of criminal activity against Mrs. Clinton. So what has been the point of these attacks from the right? (Which sadly, have filtered over to the left with supporters of some other candidates sometimes bringing up the Benghazi issue when attacking Clinton.)

The answer: politics. McCarthy is just saying what we already knew. The only real reason you could be this irate at Secretary Clinton is if you think no American should ever be killed. That can be a fair view, but one must hold that view regardless of who is in office. For instance, President George W. Bush MUST be responsible for 9/11 and all of the embassies attacked on his watch. Period. Same with Reagan, Clinton, Obama, their Secretaries of State, and every President/Cabinet member involved in foreign policy since this nation was founded. Holding Hillary responsible and formulating this ridiculous campaign against her, but not doing the same with President Bush for 9/11, is the epitome of hypocrisy.

So when Hillary has not been found negligent or responsible for the attacks on four Americans in Benghazi, we know that this is only about politics. But there is something extra heinous about hearing a leading GOP Congressman admit this on camera. To discuss poll numbers, when discussing a tragedy that involved Secretary Clinton actually losing a FRIEND, in Ambassador Stevens, is disgusting and should put House Republicans under an investigatory spotlight for wasting Americans’ money and time.
