No doubt you recall Memories Pizza, the Indiana pizzeria that became infamous when the owners, Kevin and Crystal O’Connor, said they would sooner go out of business than be part of catering a same-sex wedding. They even closed the restaurant for eight days during the firestorm generated by Indiana’s temporary passage of a so-callled “Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).”

Well, now the last laugh is really being had at the expense of Memories Pizza, and a gay couple from Illinois is broadcasting their trickery to the world via YouTube.

Robin Trevino and his husband, Jason Delgatto, were married in the state of Illinois in 2008 even though same-sex marriage was not yet legal in the state. And on Saturday they celebrated a renewal of their vows as part of a nationwide celebration of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage throughout the United States.

Trevino got the idea to renew his wedding vows with Delgatto when he realized how close he was to Memories Pizza while working in Indiana recently.

Trevino drove from Illinois to Walkerton, Indiana, and ordered two pizzas directly from Crystal O’Connor. He took them back to Illinois and the couple then exchanged vows as part of a celebration with their 1-year-old daughter.

Trevino also announced to the gathered guests:

“Memories Pizza just catered our gay wedding.”

Friends and family who were at the ceremony applauded and yelled with a righteous sense of delicious irony.

So, to the folks at Memories Pizza: You just catered your first same-sex wedding. How do you feel about that?
