Kabu the Elephant has had to endure things that will break your heart to learn about.

For at least 20 years, this amazing animal has been forced to work like a slave in Southeast Asia. Despite an injury that left one of her front limbs painfully misshapen, poor Kabu was continually kept in shackles and forced to haul heavy logs up and down a mountainside.

Not only had Kabu been made to endure physical torment, she was also made to suffer mentally. During her time in the field where she worked, Kabu had given birth to two offspring. One was sold to a tourist camp, and the other died by accident during a brutal “training crush” at the hands of her cruel captors.

But now Kabu is free and among other elephants who have been rescued from unspeakable horrors. She is the newest resident of Elephant Nature Park, a haven for rescued pachyderms. Kabu seemed excited as she made her way into the sanctuary.

How happy was this majestic creature to finally be treated with the dignity and respect she so richly deserves? So happy that tears were visible in her eyes and streaking down her face. Tears of joy for the new life she now has.

I could not be happier for Kabu. May the rest of her life be filled with nothing but goodness.
