Donald Trump Couldn’t Keep Misogyny In Check At Debate, Insults Fiorina And Jeb’s Wife

I was intensely curious about how Donald Trump was going to interact with Carly Fiorina during the second Republican debate on Wednesday. Trump stepped in it earlier this month when he spoke to Rolling Stone about Fiorina:

“Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?! I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not [supposed to] say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”

When called on his slur at the debate, he slid around the issue and said that he was referring to her persona. Yeah right. The CNN moderator in the debate asked Fiorina to respond to Trump’s comment, and she fired back at Trump:

“I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said.”

Rather than comment on Fiorina’s accomplishments or intelligence, Trump made clear his disdain for women with a double-edged compliment:

“I think she’s got a beautiful face, and I think she’s a beautiful woman.”

Earlier, the leading Republican candidate made some awkward comments about Jeb Bush’s (who prefers Jeb!) wife:

“If my wife were from Mexico, I think I would have a soft spot for people from Mexico”

So when Jeb! was asked by the moderator for a response to Trump’s remarks about his wife, he gestured to his wife where she sat in the audience and asked Trump to apologize to her. Trump, not one to admit failure under any circumstances, replied:

“No, I won’t do that because I said nothing wrong, but I hear she’s a lovely woman.”

I notice you can tell when Trump is upset, his face flushes – an unfortunate problem for a man who seems to have pretty thin skin. He was definitely upset when Fiorina held him to task, and he lay in wait for the opportunity to pay her back. He said that her tenure at Hewlett-Packard:

“Led to the destruction of the company. She can’t run any of my companies — that I can tell you.”

As far as I’m concerned, the score is Trump: 0, Carly Fiorina: 1. Let the war games begin!
