Matt Damon Lectures Successful Black Female Producer On ‘Diversity’ In Film Making

The HBO show “Project Greenlight” is a reality show, where up and coming directors compete for a chance to direct a movie, usually being funded by big name celebrities.

This year the celebrities are Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

This year’s film is a comedy project titled “Not Another Pretty Woman.” It’s the ground breaking story of a man left at the alter who winds up getting hitched to a black prostitute named “Harmony.” Harmony has a white pimp in the movie who slaps her around. And you can only imagine the crazy hijinks that ensue from there!

Good times, good times another hit from the creative geniuses in Hollywood. I’m smelling something here folks, could it be an Oscar? I really can’t tell because even that award usually smells a lot like something else, found on the ground in horse stables…

First, there’s the “script”, which should probably be taken out in a field and put down humanely. But, then, there’s an exchange between Affleck and the only female minority judge on the show, Producer Effe Brown, who’s black. Where Brown tries to make the case for a directing duo, comprised of a white female and an Asian male contestant.

The Bunche center for African American Studies at UCLA released a report in 2014, containing data collected in 2011. The data showed that only 12.2% of Hollywood films were directed by minorities, this includes white women. Women in all ethnic groups were severely under-represented, directing only 4.1% of Hollywood movies that year. It’s funny how 87.8 percent of all qualified directors during 2011 just happened to be males. And even more amazing 95.9% just so happened to be white. Gee golly wally….

But father Damon, of course, knew best and proceeded to lecture Brown on why picking “Diversity” over “Merit, was not the right thing to do when picking a director. He totally pulled his alpha white male card out and spoke over her as she tried to explain her rational for picking those two contestants. Here’s exactly what Damon said,

“When we’re talking about diversity, you do it in the casting of the film. Not the casting of the show.”

Brown’s reaction was classic, and probably shared by many people watching that episode. Brown simply smiles and says “Woooh….wow…okay.”

Damon meanders on, leaving no doubt that he believed Brown’s choice was based on “Diversity” and not “Merit.”

This exchange was an impressively subtle passive aggressive display of microagression. It was like a microagressive spring mix salad, with a little bit of racism and a heaping helping of sexist patronizing. I honestly thought that Damon had to be acting. But then I remembered the movie “Ocean’s Twelve”, shook my head and said “nah, he’s serious.”

Damon did offer a sort of “apology.” The kind people who don’t want to apologize, but feel so much public scrutiny that they need to try and at least seem like they’re sorry for something.  Damon issued this statement,

“My comments were part of a much broader conversation about diversity in Hollywood and the fundamental nature of “Project Greenlight” which did not make the show. I am sorry that they offended some people, but, at the very least, I am happy that they started a conversation about diversity in Hollywood. That is an ongoing conversation that we all should be having.”

Roughly translated from bullshit, ” Hey guys. Sorry some of you pansies and fembots got your “feelings hurt” by my completely true comments. Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll stroke off my massive ego and declare myself a hero for bringing the issue of “Diversity” to the American consciousness…”

This twitter post sums it up perfectly.
