Perhaps you’ve seen Jesse Watters on Fox News before. He often does a segment on Bill O’Reilly’s show where he goes and sticks a microphone in someone’s face and asks the most inane question he can think of. It’s a bit like watching a monkey attempt broadcast journalism.
Monday, Watters messed with the wrong man: Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. As the Senator walked down the halls of Congress, Watters approached him and tried to ask a question. To which Sanders declared:
“I don’t do ambush interviews. So if you want to talk to us, there’s my press secretary.”
Watters, looking and sounding like a first grader who had just been told he could not use the crayons, replied:
“Well, I do do ambush interviews. I just had a question for you.”
Sanders kept walking, saying nothing until Watters brushed against him with the microphone, and the Senator let him know how he felt about that:
“Don’t push me. I didn’t get rough, you pushed me.”
Patented goofy grin spreading across his face, Watters then tried to be chummy with Sanders, remarking that he and O’Reilly feel like the Senator has been “dodging” them since he decided to seek the Democratic nomination, adding:
“We feel like you used to be a friend of the show. You’re not so big-time now that you’re gonna forget about your friends, right?”
Sanders, perfectly, got on the Senate elevator, still ignoring Watters, who wondered out loud to his master, O’Reilly:
“Do you think he’s gonna come on the show now?”
O’Reilly, ever the glib jackass, replied:
“I don’t care. But you know why he’s not coming on? Because he knows that some of his base doesn’t like us, so now he’s being a politician.”
Alternate reason, Bill: Senator Sanders knows you’re a major league douchebag with no journalistic integrity and he simply isn’t going to waste his time on you or your hired ambush reporters.
