A few months ago, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul was widely considered to be a strong contender for the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination. But in recent weeks his poll numbers have lagged badly behind most of his opposition and Paul has been desperately attempting to remain marginally relevant.
Friday afternoon Senator Paul took to Twitter to lament the early exit of Rick Perry from the gigantic clown car that is the GOP field. Here’s what he posted:
What does it say about GOP when a 3 & half term Gov w/ a successful record of creating jobs bows out as a reality star leads in the polls?

The reaction that aroused on social media was swift and less than complimentary to Rand Paul. Here are a few of the retaliatory tweets that the Senator had to face the next time he logged on to his Twitter account:
@RandPaul That you’re a terrible candidate and whining that the voters don’t like you isn’t a good strategy? #tcotpic.twitter.com/PZLdojTqWt

@RandPaul it says you reap what you sow. Donald trump is exactly what you have all created with 30 years of fact free rhetoric.

@RandPaul That the majority of your party’s base are Neanderthals? Just guessing.

.@RandPaul Well Senator, it says your GOP is composed of know-nothings, nasty creeps, warmongers, money-worshippers, racists & woman-haters.

And here’s my personal favorite, direct from comedian Michael Ian Black:
@RandPaul@jaketapper It says glasses are for losers.
