Earlier this week, a Hungarian camerawoman working as a journalist was caught on camera by another reporter kicking refugee children and tripping a man who was carrying a child in his arms.

Well, karma has now paid a visit to this lowlife, identified as Petra Laszlo, who works for Nemzeti Televizio N1TV in Hungary, and she has lost her job.

Millions of refugees are leaving war zones in Syria and Libya in an attempt to find a better life in Europe. While nations such as Austria and Germany have agreed to accept tens of thousands of these refugees, some nations in Eastern Europe–most notably Hungary–have tried to use racist and xenophobic rationales for not allowing refugees into their countries.

Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic will accept Christian refugees, but say they will not accept Muslims. And the Hungarian Prime Minister has refused to honor existing refugee obligations, claiming that Syrian refugees are:

 “Threatening Europe’s Christian culture.”

How such a stance reflects the love, acceptance, and care spoken of repeatedly by Jesus is beyond me.

In addition to refusing refugees, Hungarian authorities have been holding refugees in horrible conditions, with the intention of sending them back to the devastation they are trying to escape. On Tuesday, hundreds of migrants decided to run from Hungaria in a desperate an attempt to cross the border into a more welcoming country.

As you can clearly see on the video below, the Hungarian camerawoman kicks the feet out from under a child, and then trips a father attempting to run with a child in his arms. Father and child crashed into the ground and were rounded up by police. All were then taken into custody by Hungarian police.

Perhaps we should all take a moment to consider how we would react if war was raging in our country and the only viable option seemed to be fleeing and becoming refugees. How would we wish to be treated by the nations we sought refuge in? Only then can we truly apply the concern and compassion these desperate millions deserve.
