Some truly nutty things are happening on the GOP side, as so-called Conservative Christian Mike Huckabee leads a swarm of Kim Davis supporters.

By now we all know that Kentucky clerk Kim Davis has been jailed for contempt after continuously refusing to obey the law and issue same-sex marriage licenses.

Since the news, Conservative Christian [and I use that term loosely] candidates Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz have been very outspoken in favor of Mrs. Davis.

Ted Cruz, U.S. Senator from Texas and Presidential candidate, said:

“Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny. Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith.”

Adding:

“I call upon every Believer, every Constitutionalist, every lover of liberty to stand with Kim Davis. Stop the persecution now.”

How moronic.

Let us keep going. Governor and former preacher Mike Huckabee (also a Presidential candidate) said:

“Kim Davis in federal custody removes all doubts about the criminalization of Christianity in this country. We must defend #ReligiousLiberty!

He found a way to bring Hillary Clinton into this as well. Tweeting:

Governor and Presidential Candidate Scott Walker chimed in, saying:

“I read that the Constitution is very clear that people have freedom of religion—you have the freedom to practice religious beliefs out there, it’s a fundamental right.”

And Senator and Presidential Candidate Rand Paul added:

“I think it’s absurd to put someone in jail for exercising their religious liberty.”

There is a common theme among these so-called Christian Conservatives: Massive ignorance.

They are ignorant of the law and what the government is actually supposed to do. Governor Huckabee and others have been ranting about the Supreme Court and acting as if citizens do not have to follow their rulings at all. Of course, this is only in the cases where they personally disagree with the court’s ruling.

But this is unequivocally untrue. Huckabee literally tweeted this out yesterday:

BUT THEY ARE! The fundamental misunderstanding of the Constitution and our government is beyond unnerving;  To have those who want to seek the highest office in the land undermine the very power given to one full branch of government, is maddening.

The Supreme Court IS THE SUPREME LAW! There is this little thing called the Supremacy Clause which says this. And heck, the word “supreme” kind of gives you a hint at their power…

I am sick of this idiotic view that Davis is being punished for her religious beliefs. As if we dropped a drone on her house because we saw her praying before bedtime. No. She is willfully refusing to carry out her duty as a federal government employee. Breaking news: the Constitution doesn’t give you the right to a job. You are not guaranteed the right to any job you want. Maybe we should be, but we aren’t.

So they need to quit with their juvenile pouting and stop pretending that Davis is being unfairly prosecuted simply for her beliefs. I don’t know whether educated people like Cruz truly believe this, or if they are just pandering to the ignorant public who legitimately have no clue about the law. And the media needs to hold these candidates and influential individuals accountable for their horribly stupid statements about the law and how we can arbitrarily disobey if because we feel like it. If you don’t want to follow the law regarding marriage, GET ANOTHER JOB!

Secondly, this kind of Conservative Christian, the Kim Davis supporters, are so hypocritical it is almost vomit-inducing. I can barely stomach knowing that Kim has had 4 marriages, children by men with whom she was cheating, and is now the hero for the Christian Conservative movement. Outrageous.

They have an amazing ability to forgive, ignore, and/or deny any wrongdoings and personal failings, as long as the person responsible is also homophobic.

I am done listening to them. I am done pretending to care about what they say their religious views are because it is obvious that they have no integrity. Huckabee can say that Hillary should be in jail yet can’t name what law she has broken. But Kim broke a federal law, knowingly, and she should be praised. No integrity.

They hate gays for being who they are but support Kim who chose to cheat and chose to have 4 marriages. A woman can do whatever she want, this isn’t the issue. The Bible speaks against the lifestyle Kim has CHOSEN to live more than it does the homosexual lifestyle which cannot just be chosen or changed. Yet they support Kim and condemn LGBT individuals and their relationships.

So we have to make this extremely clear. These people have no moral foundation. They have no integrity. What they say is not based on actual Biblical or Christian values. They arbitrarily make stuff up and pretend to be outraged only when their bigotry can no longer be contained. But this isn’t based in religion and it never was. They have sadly used religion as a scapegoat for their personal feelings. If they actually cared about the Old Testament, that care would surface in a myriad of ways and not just when it comes to hating gay people.

So to the modern Conservative Christian and to these GOP Presidential Candidates: I don’t care about your fake outrage. I don’t care about your support for Kim. To every Conservative Christian who “Stands With Kim”: You are a disgrace. You are blatantly supporting the breaking of federal law yet you criminalize “Black Lives Matter” protesters? Get out.
