60 Days To Slavery: The Latest Immigration Reform Idea

Conservative talk radio is a good place to go when you want to hear just how batshit right-winger’s can be. It’s a magical place where white skin makes you a victim, the genocide of Native Americans never happened, and autism is just a racket devised by low-income families to sponge off the government. Now, with Donald Trump’s disparaging comments about Hispanics on full blast, one conservative radio host has used his show as a platform to discuss his latest immigration reform idea.

Bring back slavery!

That’s right. An Iowan jackass named Jan Mickelson has decided the way to handle illegal immigrants in Iowa is to effectively force them into slavery if they cannot provide proof of legal status to the satisfaction of authorities within “30-60 days.”

“… you become property of the state of Iowa. And we have a job for you. And we start using compelled labor, the people who are here illegally would therefore be owned by the state and become an asset of the state rather than a liability and we start inventing jobs for them to do.”

I’m sorry, what now? Property of the state?

Oh, but it doesn’t stop there.

Just seconds later, Mickelson expands on his idea, as only an American far-right conservative can. While speaking in regard to Trump’s comments about Mexico paying for American border security:

“… again, give them another 60 day guideline, you need to go home and leave this jurisdiction, and if you don’t you become property of the United states, and guess what? You will be building a wall. We will compel your labor. You would belong to these United States. You show up without an invitation, you get to be an asset. You get to be a construction worker. Cool!”

This whole thing gets worse.

Edwin Epps over here answers a call from a guy headed to Des Moines, who informs the unbelievable radio host that what he’s proposing sounds a lot like slavery, to which Mickelson replies:

“Well, what’s wrong with slavery?”

Everything! Everything is wrong with slavery! Jesus Christ, man!

I don’t care if the preceding rhetoric is this jackoff’s latest immigration reform idea, it’s sinister! We can all agree that something needs to be done about undocumented immigrants in the United States. While we vehemently disagree about how to deal with it, I honestly never thought that someone — even a white-bread Iowan conservative — would propose slavery as an option.

I don’t even know how to deal with this. I don’t know what to say. I mean, seriously.

What’s worse than just this asshole and his latest immigration reform solution is that every 2016 Republican presidential candidate has appeared on this guy’s show, save Jeb Bush.

Slavery… Wow, what a batshit, unconstitutional “solution.”

Robert could go on about how he was raised by honey badgers in the Texas Hill Country, or how he was elected to the Texas state legislature as a 19-year-old wunderkind, or how he won 219 consecutive games of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots against Hugh Grant, but those would be lies. However, Robert does hail from Lewisville, Texas, having been transplanted from Fort Worth at a young age. Robert is a college student and focuses his studies on philosophical dilemmas involving morality, which he feels makes him very qualified to write about politicians. Reading the Bible turned Robert into an atheist, a combative disposition toward greed turned him into a humanist, and the fact he has not lost a game of Madden football in over a decade means you can call him "Zeus."
