Tim Young and Paul Hullings are two firefighters from New Jersey. Following a 12 hour shift fighting a fire, the two firefighters proceeded to enter a diner at around 6 am.
In a stroke of fate, their waiter, Liz Woodward, overheard the two heroes discussing their relentless battle against the fire. So when the Paul and Tim proceeded to go pay they were instead greeted by a message on their check that Tim recounts as “… a selfless act and kind act. I definitely urge my friends to make a trip out and support the business, and if Liz happens to be your waitress, tip big”
Here is that message:
However the story isn’t over. The firefighters’ next move leaves me in tears and restores my faith in humanity.
Tim and Paul learned that Liz’s father, Steve, is a quadriplegic.
So Tim decided to urge people to donate to the page Liz had made so that she could raise enough money to afford a vehicle that is wheelchair accessible.
Tim went on to break everyone’s heart, in a good way mind you, by saying this:
“Turns out, the young lady who gave us a free meal is really the one that could use the help…”
With Tim’s assistance the page quickly began receiving more and more donations, and within a few days they had reached $70,000. This number is especially surprising considering the fact that the original goal was $17,000! Liz remained very humble, not surprising, as she met the goal.
She stated:
”All I did was pay for their breakfast. I didn’t expect anything more than a smile…It goes to show that you just have to be kind to each other and that even the smallest gesture can change a life.”
Hey Liz, though you didn’t ask for the money, you certainly deserved it!
This story is just so very joyous. It is always fantastic to be able to look into the world and see beautiful things like this.
