Danny Trejo is probably best known for his roles in films such as “Desperado”, “Bad Ass’, and the “Machete” sequels. Playing the tough guy in movies was not a far jump from his actual life though. As Danny explained to AARP in a very open interview recently.

AARP also released a short video on its YouTube channel in which Danny talks about his younger years that were filled with violence and drugs. Both of which landed him in prison later. Becoming an actual boxing champion in prison, Danny put these skills to work when he got out.

When Danny Trejo was released from prison he was determined to help others in need. One such person just happened to be a young Production Assistant on the set of an Eric Robert’s film titled “Runaway Train” in 1985. The film just happened to feature both prison and boxing. The rest as they say is history.

Danny Trejo is not just an action-movie icon these days though. He still finds the time to speak at campuses and to help as many people as he can. As Danny says in the video:

“Everything good that has happened to me, has happened as a direct result of helping someone else. My passion is talking to young people who want to stay out of trouble. My message is staying away from drugs and alcohol, and education is the key to anything you want to do.”

Danny goes on to speak of his work with young people. It’s clear that he is a man with a mission. After watching this video I have an extreme newfound respect for Danny Trejo. If we all just gave 25% of what Danny does to help others, I can only imagine the impact it would have on the world.

I will definitely be watching his unique brand of action-movies with a new respect for the man. I know there will be those that argue his movies are violent, but hey, it’s Hollywood. Which means it is make-believe. Hopefully those watching will know the difference.
