Sandy Rios, the morning drive-time host on American Family Radio, has compiled a record over the years that’s almost as sordid as that of AFR’s most (in)famous personality, Bryan Fischer. This is a woman who considers borderline terroristic threats to be “words of life” and has suggested that the Philadelphia train derailment may have happened because the engineer may have been a closeted gay. So a suggestion she made on Friday’s show is more or less par for the course. She told a caller that even if Obama isn’t really a Muslim, at the very least he has “Muslim sympathies.”
Rios has spent more time than nearly every other AFR host trolling for evidence that Obama is really a closet radical Muslim. For instance, back in January she opined that Obama used this year’s State of the Union Address to deliver subliminal pro-Islam messages. So a conversation she had with “Dave” is typical for her. Dave said that his dream Republican presidential ticket would be Ted Cruz and Ben Carson. Once 2024 comes around, Dave let it be known his sympathies would be with Carson. He said that he would love to see Carson become “the first black president, instead of a Muslim president.”
Rios lapped it up. She said that Obama “loves” and is “certainly sympathetic” to Muslims. The strongest evidence, she said, is that “he loves the call to prayer, and we’ll say no more.” Then Rios really went there.
“I kind of think he’s an atheist, Dave, to be honest with you, with Muslim sympathies, I always need to clarify that.”
Wow. Two dog whistles for the price of one. You have to remember that “he’s a Muslim” is a backdoor attempt to gut both the First Amendment and Article Six of the Constitution, which bans religious tests. Right-wing provocateur Larry Klayman admitted as much in February, when he declared that since Obama is really a Muslim, he can’t honestly swear to uphold the Constitution because you have to do so “on the Holy Bible of the Judeo-Christians.” Of course, if you effectively have to be a Christian to honestly take the oath of office, that would leave atheists out in the cold as well.
Riddle me this, Sandy. What does one’s religious persuasion have to do with someone’s ability to lead the country? Until you can tell us what one’s religious “sympathies” or lack thereof have to do with that person’s qualifications for office, do us a favor and stop trolling for evidence that Obama is supposedly a Muslim.
