Ted Cruz was giving a speech at a recent political event, sponsored by the Koch brothers, when he stated emphatically that global warming was a myth. The audience applauded loudly. What kind of isolation are these people living in?

Denying global warming, and the resulting climate change, is self-destructive behavior taken to the extreme. It’s a little like looking down at a hand that has just lost a finger, and refusing to believe that anything bad has happened, then maintaining that belief while you slowly bleed to death.

If global warming is not stopped, we can anticipate an end to most life on the our planet. (There are microorganisms around volcanic vents at the bottom of the ocean which might survive.) An end to life on Terra, so a small number of rich people can maintain their status and their egos during their short little lifetimes? Shades of Easter Island.

The west coast is being transformed into a desert, the south is being flooded, the north pole has melted, the south pole is melting, tornadoes are ripping through the country, and winter and summer temperatures fluctuate wildly. There is no point in making an argument against Cruz’s position. It is simply not worth the effort to argue with someone who is so out of touch with reality.

According to Senator Cruz, during a CNN interview in 2014,

“There has been no recorded warming in the last 15 years. Contrary to all the theories… It hasn’t happened.”

No one has been able to substantiate these claims, nor has Senator Cruz offered to reveal his information source. A reasonable theory is he simply misinterpreted the evidence put before him. As to whether the misinterpretation was deliberate, only he and his makeup artist know for sure.

When asked about arctic ice melting at the North Pole, Cruz dismissed it.

“Climate change, as they have defined it, can never be disproved, because whether it gets hotter or whether it gets colder, whatever happens, they’ll say, well, it’s changing, so it proves our theory.”

It has been said that Ted Cruz is smart. This does not seem to be a description of his intellectual skills, but more a description of his single-minded approach to finding money. In essence, Ted Cruz (and others at the Koch brothers’ get together) are there to tell the Koch brothers what they want to hear. They are there to sell themselves. While a prostitute might rent out the most intimate parts of her body, these people are selling their souls, and accepting all the psychological damage that goes with it.

Koch Industries is one of the top three ranking polluters in the United States, and it is no wonder that Ted Cruz is claiming global warming and climate change are myths. That is exactly what the Koch brothers, and other industrial polluters, want to hear.

The Koch brothers aren’t fond of Social Security, either. Why should they have to pay anything for the retirement programs of people who have worked for them? Isn’t it the responsibility of the individual to prepare for retirement? Why is the government involved? (Maybe to keep people like the Koch brothers from stealing their retirement funds.) Not too surprisingly, Ted Cruz has plans for privatizing the Social Security system. That way, “someone” can be making a profit off all those retired seniors.
