Open Letter To ‘Heritage, Not Hate’ Confederate Flag Wavers

Dear Jackasses,

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Just A Mom. I’m not your mom, because if I were you would behave yourselves better. I’m going to give you boys and girls a little lesson in history and manners, because apparently your own mommy never bothered with those essential behaviors when you were growing up. Your minds seem to be stuck in middle school.

I am quite over your infantile behavior regarding your silly little flag security blanket and your supposed ‘heritage.’ Do I need to break down the word infantile for you? It means you are acting like babies.

The flag you wave claiming it is a part of your ‘heritage’ is the flag of LOSERS. Nothing more – nothing less. The flag you herald as your ‘heritage’ was never the official confederate flag.

The flag security blanket you identify with never actually represented your heritage,

“Despite never having historically represented the Confederate States of America as a country, nor officially recognized as one of its national flags, the rectangular Second Confederate Navy Jack and the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia are now flag types commonly referred to as “the Confederate Flag”.”

The flag was constructed as a battle flag for Confederate General Robert E. Lee and it was carried in front of the Confederate Army in battles against the United States Army. For you to claim that flag as your ‘heritage’ aligns you with traitors. The South was fighting against the country you now proclaim to love. The flag was surrendered when Lee surrendered to General U.S. Grant.  Is that what you want to celebrate? That your side lost?

That flag stands for a period of American history that no American should be proud of. We were fighting amongst ourselves over the right to OWN other human beings. THAT is what that flag represents. The Civil War was not a proud time for America. It was one of the lowest moments in the entire history of our great nation. It almost tore this nation in two. And for what? The right to OWN another human being.

The flag was put away for a long, long time. Nobody thought about it. But then the Ku Klux Klan dragged it out of obscurity and made it their own. They brandished that flag as they committed atrocities against other human beings. They practiced hate based solely on the color of one’s skin. And you let them. You may have even helped them.

Where was your pride of ‘heritage’ then? Where were you when they brandished that flag in the name of hate and racism? If that flag meant so much to your ‘heritage’ why didn’t you yank it out of the hands of the racist pigs that made it their own?

Because you knew, even then, that the true nature of that flag was a battle standard to be flown in the fight for supremacy. White over black. You knew – and you agreed. You ALLOWED the KKK to use your battle standard and turn it into a symbol of racism and hate. Because you knew it had been one all along. So much for your pride of ‘heritage.’

When you claim ‘heritage’ I call bullshit. That flag has always symbolized hatred and racism. You cannot change history. It is there. And your side LOST. It is time to put down the battle standard. The war is over and you LOST.

But who am I? Just A Mom. With a child that I am teaching to be a better human being than you are. I am teaching my daughter to treat everyone the same, with respect. Apparently your mommy missed that part of your upbringing. I am teaching my child to be a decent human being. To stand up for others too weak or out-numbered to stand up for themselves.

I am teaching my child to be humane and accepting of all people, regardless of their melanin levels. I’m sorry, I used another large word. Melanin – that is the pigment of your skin. It is what makes black people darker than white people. We all have melanin – because we are all alike in every way, right down to our DNA.

The Confederate battle flag does not belong anywhere near a public statehouse. It should be displayed within its historical context, such as at museums, reenactments, living histories, etc. It is also, I believe, appropriate to own one if you are an avid historian and lover of the time period, but take care to remember and be sensitive about what it can symbolize to others.” Lars Prillaman

This is the best opinion on the APPROPRIATE display and use of the Confederate battle flag, which mirrors my own personal feelings on it (despite what you may think – the flag DOES have a place in our history and you just can’t erase that and make it go away).

But here’s the thing . . .

When you take your little flag security blanket and you drive through neighborhoods that you know are mostly African-American, and you honk your little Dixie-tooting horny-horns on your over-sized redneck trucks you are, technically, inciting a riot. You are antagonizing people in a blatant attempt to get them to strike out at you angrily. That is childish behavior. When these kind people do lash out and toss a water bottle at your truck you cry foul and want THEM arrested? They live there. You were in their home with intentions that were not honorable. What were you thinking when you organized your little parade? That they would welcome you with open arms and applaud at the virility of your he-man trucks? My guess is that you were intentionally trying to incite a riot.

When you crash a child’s birthday party to celebrate your ‘heritage’ you are really only showing your idiocy. Terrorizing children with a symbol associated with racism, lynchings, and outright hate and waving your metal penises in the air isn’t being proud of your ‘heritage.’ It is being a racist asshole.

My advice to all of you flag-waving security blanket carrying idiots – Learn a little about your ‘heritage’ and stop using the Confederate battle flag as a symbol to make you feel better about having a small penis.
