Three young women from Chechnya, a Russian republic in southeastern Europe, recently scammed the Islamic State out of a few thousand dollars.
The Islamic State, also known as ISIS, uses social media to recruit. They are always on the lookout for young non-Arabs, willing to carry out attacks on their homeland. There have been numerous stories of young women from places like the Great Britain, Canada, Australia, France, and the United States, running off to join ISIS, only to send word back that they made a terrible mistake.
You see, ISIS treats women like dirt. Women are only useful in their eyes if they are cooking, cleaning, or giving “comfort” to ISIS soldiers. Many of the women find life inside the ISIS world to be a living hell, but by then it’s too late to leave.
ISIS reached out to the 3 Chechen women through their social media accounts, asking them to join their cause. The women kept in touch with ISIS members, even sending them fake pictures to string them along. They indicated they wanted to join the fight. So the ISIS recruiter agreed to wire the women the money in order for them to travel to Syria.
After ISIS wired the money, the 3 female con artists disappeared. They closed their social media accounts and stopped all communication. They made away with a total of $3,300. Not a lot of money, but still the con must have hurt recruitment efforts.
Unfortunately for the young ladies, the Chechen government has a very good cyber crimes department and they were caught shortly after the scam.
Many people feel as though the young ladies should be awarded a medal as opposed to prison sentences.
The problem with that logic is that we don’t know how many people these con artists scammed before ISIS, and we don’t know if these ladies would target less deserving victims in the future. So it’s possible some rich sexist pig looking for a young desperate Russian bride dodged at least 3 bullets.
This could become a new tactic against ISIS, maybe these women could spend their sentences doing “community service,” teaching intelligence agents how to scam this clowns?
