Imagine being a cable installer, going about your day like any other, when all of a sudden you come face-to-face with a decomposing corpse in a client’s apartment. This is exactly what happened recently to a cable installer in Medina, Ohio. While doing work at the residence of Eric Warfel, a cable installer found the rotting corpse of a child that is believed to Warfel’s 1-year-old daughter, Ember.

The cable installer pointed out that the girl’s corpse was “badly decomposed.” She had apparently been in that room, covered in garbage, for a while.

Following a call to the authorities and a statement given by the cable installer, Medina police tracked Eric Warfel to a shopping center in Westlake, Ohio. He was spending time with his 7-year-old daughter, who is now in the custody of her grandparents.

Warfel has been charged with abuse of a corpse, a fifth-degree felony, but depending upon autopsy results, he could be looking at more charges in the coming weeks.

Warfel’s ex-wife lives in New York.

Eric Warfel’s bond is set at $1 million since the state is concerned he may be a flight risk.

Warfel explained to Magistrate Linda Leggett that Ember had died on June 18 and instead of notifying the authorities, emergency medical personnel, or family, he covered the body with garbage to mask the smell.

I’m not saying one way or another if Warfel killed his daughter (we can assume the body is Ember Warfel). There’s no concrete proof of that. However, what is truly disturbing about this case is that Warfel deliberately hid the body and apparently did so well enough that it took about a month until an unsuspecting (and presumably traumatized) cable installer happened to stumble across the body. I mean, Ember Warfel was “badly decomposed,” as the cable installer said. She had to smell incredibly noxious at the time she was discovered, especially since she was rotting amidst garbage.

Interestingly, a detail from Eric Warfel’s past may call his credibility into question. Ember Warfel is not the only child of his to die young and under mysterious circumstances. 5-month-old Erin Delynn Warfel was found dead in 2013 from “sudden unexplained infant death” with cause undetermined.

Again, I’m not saying Eric Warfel had anything to do with it, but it’s a little bizarre to me that this man has two children die within two years, both of their deaths unexplained.

Either Eric Warfel is a disgusting killer who gets off on infanticide or he pissed off a gypsy somewhere down the line. Either way, Ember Warfel’s body, if it’s proven to be Ember Warfel, should be able to answer a ton of questions about a man who now has the misfortune of the nation’s attention.
