9-Year-Old Boy Catches Monster During Sports Fishing BC, Canada

When nine-year-old Kegan Rothman went fishing with his dad, he never expected to catch a 10-foot-long fish. This one was particularly prehistoric-looking and weighed 600 pounds, making the catch even more remarkable.

Kegan and his father, Dan Rothman, caught a massive white sturgeon on the Fraser River, British Columbia, Canada, where they traveled with Ben Trainer, a Great River Fishing Adventures guide.

The 4-foot-tall boy said:

?I thought the fish was going to pull me into the water!?

He hooked the sturgeon himself, but his father helped battle the fish for nearly two hours. A Great River Fishing Adventures representative said that is was ?a nearly impossible feat.?

Record-Breaking Monster

The fish was the largest sturgeon caught in the Fraser River, and the Great River Fishing Adventures guide said:

?I’ve been a professional fishing guide on the Fraser River for 11 years and have fished these rivers my whole life. This is one of the largest fish I have helped a client catch.”

Fossils of sturgeons date back 200 million years. The fish Kegan caught was over 75-years-old according to estimates. So far the Great River Fishing Adventures?guides have tagged about 61,000 white sturgeons since they began in 1995.

The sturgeon the boy caught measured 50 inches around its middle. After the guides took all the measurements, Kegan coaxed the fish into a deeper spot in the river. Then it slowly made its way into the depths.

The little fisherman thought the grand old fish was more than a little intimidating. Like a true fisher,?Kegan said,

?I’ll never forget this?this is the best trip of my life!?

Since these sturgeons can reach lengths of more than 20 feet, maybe Kegan will come back someday and catch this fish’s grandfather.
