The recent ruling by the Supreme Court legalizing same-sex marriage across the nation has sent conservatives into shock. Many of them have been proclaiming that the high court has changed the definition of marriage, which has always been between one man and one woman.
Turns out it’s ridiculously easy to turn that talking point on its head, and one man, Matt Baume, has done just that with a hilarious and incredibly informative video he has posted on YouTube for all to view.
In the video, Baume destroys all the right wing claims of “traditional marriage between one man and one woman.? He?covers the concept of marriage as it has existed in almost every period of human history, from pre-biblical times to the 1990?s, when spousal rape finally became a crime in all US states. Yes, it was legally acceptable for husbands to rape their wives prior to that. How’s that for “traditional?”
Baume’s?bottom line on marriage is this: Marriage is an agreement between two people. Is marriage granted by God? No, it really isn’t, and Baume uses Biblical references to prove his point.
Same-sex marriage has nothing to do with religion, despite what Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum say. It has to do with the legal system. In the United States, God does not grant marriage licenses, the state does. For that reason alone, same-sex couples should have been granted this right decades ago.
