WATCH As A SC Megachurch Pastor Attempts To ‘Pray Away The Gay’

Personally, I had never heard of Ron Carpenter, Jr. until today, but now that I’ve seen this charlatan in action, something tells me I won’t be forgetting him anytime soon.

On Wednesday, at one of his services in South Carolina, Carpenter told the gathered congregation that homosexuality is caused by demons. Near the end of service, he asked for gay congregants to come to the stage so as to let “Jesus straighten things out.”

Yep, he’s that kind of minister: He thinks he can change people’s sexual orientation with prayer. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Christian and I believe in prayer, but I also happen to believe science proves that you cannot change the basic hardwired nature of who a person is gay. But I’m fine with that, and I happen to believe that God is OK with it, too.

Here’s a sample of what Carpenter said during his sermon Wednesday:

?Sin don’t have a gene. I disagree with people who say you can’t be born that way? an infant predisposed to alcoholism, an infant already predisposed to never holding down a relationship, an infant already predisposed to panic attacks, an infant predisposed to diabetes, and infant already predisposed to a twisted lifestyle.?

While he was at it, Carpenter also declared that gay people live shorter lives, which he said was a “due penalty” for their sexual orientation.

Where exactly would that be found in the Bible? I’ve read it cover to cover several times and never seen any verses that say gay people lead shorter lives. I’m positive that Jesus never said anything like that.

So Brother Carpenter told all the people in the audience who were gay to come on up to the altar and get their healing on. He added his own personal theory for why someone might be a homosexual:

?Something happened to you as a child, somebody molested you, somebody abused you, somebody fondled you, somebody raped you. And if I got one that says, ?Pastor, I’ve been touched by this struggle, I’ve been touched by this turmoil. I was one of those that somebody did something in my youth and it confused me.’?

We’ve heard this kind of claptrap before: You’re gay because you were molested or raped when you were a child. So does that mean that everyone who suffered from sexual abuse as a child is automatically gay? The logic on that theory is not only flawed, it’s just pure horsefeathers.

At that point, Carpenter then began praying for all the congregants who came to the stage, and even announced:

?We’re not going to rush this. This is deep, deep, deep hurt. If we have to stay in this alter to midnight, we’re going to stay here.?

You may be staying, Ron, but the rest of us are going to retreat into some sanity.
