We are HUGE Queen fans here at Liberal America. Queen is before my time, sadly. However, I grew up singing “Bohemian Rhapsody,” dreaming of playing it on piano, and now as an adult, I write regularly to “Don’t Stop Me Now.” You can just call me Mr. Fahrenheit. Thank you very much.

So, with all that said, the fact that Kanye West thought he was even worthy of ATTEMPTING to sing “Bohemian Rhapsody” live at a show is insulting. This song is one of the shining examples of Mercury’s genius with a ballad segment, guitar solo, opera, and then hard rock. Like, I feel as if someone has spit in my face and rubbed feces right under my nose. Yes, I’m that offended. To quote Liberal America’s founder, Tiffany:

“It makes me nauseous for him to even attempt that song”

To write this, I made myself listen to it. It was torture. Someone call Dick Cheney. We may just have a new cruel method of torture he may want to know about. The fact that Kanye has an ego big enough to even think he could do this is despicable. He’s noticeably off tune. Freddie Mercury had a vocal range of four octaves for Christ’s sake. Why someone didn’t throw something at West’s over-inflated head during the concert is beyond me. Kanye has pulled a lot of stupid antics in the past. This one is at least a top five on that list.

Even worse, Kanye also said this:

“I’m going to say this tonight because 20 years from now, 30 years from now, 40 years from now, I might not be able to say it, but I can say it tonight… You are now watching THE GREATEST LIVING ROCK STAR ON THE PLANET!”

Greatest living rock star? My fat bottomed ASS.

Fortunately, I am definitely not the only person who has a HUGE problem with Kanye’s attempt at covering the song. A radio station, Q104.3 FM took Kanye’s performance and mashed it up with footage of Mercury laughing and performing the song. They also manage to fit in an image of Kanye looking completely owned with his fee fees hurt. It’s definitely a great retribution and in fact, I can see Mercury laughing singing these words:

“Buddy, you’re a boy make a big noise / Playin’ in the street gonna be a big man some day! You got mud on yo’ face / You big disgrace. Kickin’ your can all over the place singin’…”
