Sam’s Morning Glory Diner in Philadelphia has a routine for Fridays: That’s the day they come up with the name for the breakfast specials they’ll be offering during the coming week.
This past Friday, in light of the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision legalizing same-sex marriage, the owners came up with two new specials. The first,??The Supreme Court Finally Got It Right? quiches, were available with or without prosciutto ham, and sold quickly, but it’s the other special that got them national recognition.
?Antonin Scalia is a Douche,? consisted of eggs, vegetables, and andouille sausage. The restaurant had enough sausage to feed 150 patrons, but both specials went so quickly that by 10 AM they were history.
The diner’s owner,?Carol Mickey, said customers loved the two new specials:
?Not one single person complained.?The atmosphere in [the diner]?was really wonderful. People were just loving saying it! ?I’ll have the Scalia is a Douche, please.??
Hey, we all love saying that Justice Scalia is a douche because it’s so darn true!
What happened in Philadelphia should, I believe, go national. Maybe we could get McDonald’s to offer an Egg McMuffin renamed, “Ted Cruz is a pandering moron,” or Subway could give us a sandwich with a moniker like “Ben Carson Sure is Stupid for a Doctor.” Imagine the possibilities!
Just the fact that the Morning Glory Diner offered two specials which are slaps in the face of Scalia tells me that he’s on the wrong side of history. Just last week he wrote in the Obamacare decision that language no longer had any meaning, and then he tried to defend voting against the right of all couples to marry by making a bizarre comparison to slavery. And this made me wonder, If Justice Scalia is so unhappy on the high court, maybe it’s time for him to retire and let someone else take his place.
And if that happens, the country won’t just name a special in his honor. Hell, we’ll probably have a ticker tape parade to celebrate!
