Dan Savage: Change Bristol Palin’s Name To ‘Obama’ And Fox News Would Be Calling Her A Slut

It’s been a bad week for the Palin family. First we have Bristol Palin announcing that she’s pregnant AGAIN with an out-of-wedlock baby. Earlier in the week, the Mama Grizzly herself, Sarah, was fired by Fox News for the second time. Add to that the Supreme Court rulings on Obamacare, equal housing, and same-sex marriage, and the family is probably walking around with enough black armbands on to choke a goat.

Do I feel sorry for them? No. Not even a little. And that’s mainly because I’m sure if this rash of bad karma was happening to someone the Palin family disliked–President Obama, Al Gore, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton–they’d be laughing and blowing up Twitter with caustic comments.

So when I saw what columnist Dan Savage wrote online about Bristol’s latest pregnancy, I nodded my head in assent. Here’s what Savage posted:

?If Bristol Palin’s last name was ‘Obama’ the whole Hee Haw gang at Fox News would spend half of every day for the next nine months telling us that Bristol Obama has terrible parents?’Maybe Michelle sh’uld be less concerned with what your kids are eating and more concerned with what her kids are doing!??and the other half of the day pretending to fret over the terrible example that Bristol Obama was setting for other African American women and girls. But unplanned pregnancies and kids in fatherless homes and two different children by two different fathers? IOIYAR.?

Is Dan Savage wrong? Far from it. He’s 100 percent right. Fox News would run an Obama daughter’s pregnancy into the ground and moralize endlessly about how terrible it is for the country. But when the shoe is on the other foot, when it happens to a member of the Palin clan, the Fox folks are mighty quiet on the topic.

Savage also noted that Bristol Palin had come out strongly against President Obama changing his stance on same-sex marriage. The President noted that his daughters?Sasha and Malia had helped him see the light on the issue. Palin said at the time:

“While it’s great to listen to your kids? ideas, there’s also a time when dads simply need to be dads. In this case, it would’ve been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that’s not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage. Or that?as great as her friends may be?we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home. Ideally, fathers help shape their kids? worldview.?

And what about your children, Bristol? Will they be growing up in a mother/father home? Nope, didn’t think so. And apparently the guy you were recently engaged to must have realized what a horrible mistake he made when he proposed to you. Who in their right mind would want to marry into the Palin family? I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

Fox News, as you might expect, got all hot under the collar when it saw Savage’s comments, and for some odd reason Geraldo Rivera (a hack if ever there was one) felt the need to post this online:

Geraldo, methinks you doth protest too much.

So what do you bet the next time someone Sarah Palin disagrees with says or does something that rubs her the wrong way she’ll take to social media to fire darts at them? But if we dare do the same with a member of her family, we’ve somehow stepped over the line.

Man, the hypocrisy these people engage in is enough to drop an elephant to its knees!
