Sexual Assault Charges To Appear On Transcripts

New York has become the second state to have sexual assault charges appear on a students transcripts.

The good thing about this law is that it will apply to both private and public universities, as some private schools have tried to get out of following 21st century procedures and rules in recent years.

A student may file an appeal to remove the note from their transcript but if a student withdraws from the school, his or her transcript will have a note saying: “withdrew with conduct charges pending.?

The bill itself is championship by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D).

New York is the second state to pass this bill into law after Virginia enacted a similar legislation in May that passed with an astounding 97-3 count.

Following this trend is California and Maryland, both of which introduced legislation that would require note of sexual assault to put on a student’s transcripts.

Maryland’s bill was stopped short for an unknown reason.

Fortunately for the State of California, the bill will move forward after Das Williams (D) gave the senate the go ahead and referred the bill to the education committee.

The California bill will also extend upon New York’s?bill by requiring transfer students with sexual assaults charges to have a note on their transcript as well.

This is good news for the college scene, which has been stricken in recent years with sexual assaults and bad publicity. This is why it’s important to be proactive for the sake of our students.
