Texas Firefighter Terminated After Praising Charleston Shooter For “The Good Deed He Has Done”

Remember that funny line from the movie “Friday”, when Chris Tucker asks Ice Cube, “How do you get fired on your day off?”

A funnier question might be, “How do you get fired from a volunteer position?” The answer, however, is not so funny.

Kurtis Cook of Mabank, Texas posted his views on a local East Texas newspaper’s Facebook page that Charleston shooter, Dylann Roof,?should be praised for his good deed in killing nine people of color at?Charleston Emanuel’s AME Church on Wednesday.

The post was circulated around social media, landing on Mabank Fire Department’s Facebook page shortly after. A response was issued late last evening.

Very shortly after, Mabank Fire Department announced that Cook was being terminated from his position as a volunteer firefighter and would no longer be allowed on their property.

His firing was praised by citizens of East Texas, who posted support of the decision to Mabank Fire Department’s Facebook page.

Hey, Fox News, remember that day you refused to accept that the Charleston shooting was a hate crime perpetrated by a racist bent on killing people of color? Do you think Firefighter Cook was praising the killing of people of color or the killing of Christians?

Even more frightening: how many of these racists exist and support Dylann Roof?

Thank you, Mabank Fire Department, for your quick and no-tolerance response to such a vile and racist statement. You’re to be commended for holding your volunteer firefighters to high standards and holding them accountable for statements that are hurtful to the citizens you serve. It is a shame that other organizations don’t always see a need to respond to such racist remarks in such short order and with such finality.

Congratulations to you, as well, Kurtis Cook! You are the first person I’ve ever known to be fired from a volunteer position. Mazel tov!
