Deadly Zoo Animals on the Loose in Georgia, Africa

Deadly zoo animals are on the loose in Georgia, Africa after the community of Tbilisi falls victim to severe flooding.

Tigers, lions, a hippopotamus, and other zoo animals escaped from a Georgian zoo after the flooding destroyed their enclosures. The escaped animals prompted officials to alert the residents of Tbilisi about the danger of the animals.

At least 12 people, including 3 zoo workers, have been killed by loose animals.

Fortunately, the hippopotamus was cornered and subdued by a tranquilizer dart. Other animals have been seized but it is unknown just how many animals are still missing in action.

Bears and wolves are also among some of the animals that escaped from their destroyed enclosures.

David Narmania said:

“Not all the animals who ran away from the zoo have been captured. Therefore, I want to ask the populace to refrain from moving about the city without an urgent need to.”

Most of the zoo still lies as under-water remains, which is what has caused the uncertainty regarding the number of escaped animals.

The flood, which also destroyed dozens of homes, was caused by heavy rain and wind that hit Tbilisi during the night.

About 1.1 million people live in the former Soviet Republic capital.

Commenting on this unfortunate event, the head of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Ilia, blames communists for the zoo escape.

The Patriarch said:

“When Communists came to us in this country, they ordered that all crosses and bells of the churches be melted down and the money used to build the zoo. The sin will not go without punishment. I am very sorry that Georgians fell so that a zoo was built at the expense of destroyed churches.”
